Story
In supermarkets, they usually shine yellow from the shelves, although they are actually green, and only very few consumers are aware of the many ways in which they can be used. Citrus fruits are among the oldest cultivated plants and are known in all parts of the world. The Arabs brought them to Sicily 1000 years ago, they found their way into literature with Goethe and the Medici cultivated them in their Tuscan gardens. Even in southern Austria, a gardener has dedicated himself to cultivating hundreds of varieties. These fruits are now increasingly finding their way into top gastronomy. The TV documentary takes the viewer to magnificent landscapes and their rich history – from the Alps to Tuscany to Sicily with their extraordinary people, who all have one thing in common – their passion for citrus fruits.
The film “Wo die Zitronen blüh’n” is a cultural history of the yellow-green fruit, which we encounter in hundreds of different forms, a cinematic journey to the most beautiful places where lemons have been cultivated for centuries – from the Alps to Sicily.
